Netherlands - day 3 - Amsterdam

After a good night sleep we woke up rested, had breakfast, payed for our stay (38€+2€ tax) and went to see the city. We are going to stay another night here, but with different host.

There was a bit of rain occasionally during the day, but it was improving.

Amsterdam has a very big park close to the town's center. It also has a non-stop open, secured bike garage close by where we left the bikes after visiting the park.

The garage is free if you are staying for up to 24h, after that you have to pay (I'm not sure how much, but it was not expensive). So, for you to be able to leave the bike here, you have to "check in" with your debit or credit card. Once again we had a problem with the debit card - again it was refused. After talking to the man who is working there, and promising to leave the bikes only for a few hours, he was kind enough to let us do that.

We went to the souvenir shop to buy souvenirs (surprising, I know...). The saleswoman asked us where we are from, we started talking and she too told us that we must go to the north to see the islands. Since she was also recently in Scotland, and loved it (just like we did), after leaving the shop we looked at each other and said that maybe we should change our route and go to the north on this trip instead of on some other. So the decision was made (it took as about 5 sec) - instead of Belgium and Luxembourg, we are going north to see the islands.
We have few more days for planning the new route because first we are going to Bodegraven and Gauda; that we are not going to change.

As usual, when we are in town where there is a Hard Rock Cafe, we eat lunch there. Good atmosphere, good food, good music, ....

Later in the afternoon we arrived to the western part of Amsterdam. That part is visibly poorer, the flat where we stayed was not so good (for example, bathroom was too narrow to be able to close the door when on the toillet) and the host tried to charge us 50€ for a stay. Luckily we knew what the price was so next morning we settled it on 40€ (38€+2€ tax). So far, this was our only (part)negative experience with Vrienden op de Fiets. Fingers crossed that it stays that way.
